California Highway Patrol is seeking information on a dark-colored SUV suspected of being involved in the theft of copper wire from a Pacific Gas and Electric Co. storage yard in East Sonora on Wednesday.

A pair from Stockton were arrested after CHP officers pulled over a suspicious pickup at Tuolumne Road and Eagle Ridge Drive about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday and noticed several strands of freshly cut, heavy gauge copper wire in the bed of the truck, CHP said in a news release.

Upon further investigation, CHP said, the officers learned that the occupants of the pickup were in the process of a burglary from the PG&E storage yard near the intersection.

Jabier G. Perez, 34, and Nora Lopez Guido, 47, both of the 200 block of Walker Lane in Stockton, were subsequently booked in the Dambacher Detention Center in Sonora on suspicion of felony grand theft of copper, criminal conspiracy, vandalism, and knowingly receiving stolen property, as well as misdemeanor possession of burglary tools.

Perez was additionally charged with misdemeanor drug possession.

The CHP said it will handle the investigation to completion. Additionally, the agency is seeking identifying information on a dark-colored SUV that fled the area when the pickup was pulled over Wednesday.

Anyone with more information on the SUV can call the Sonora-area CHP office at (209) 984-3944.
