XMCOSY solar outdoor pathway lights review - The Gadgeteer

REVIEW – I’ve used solar pathway lights to light up our sidewalk and have solar lights on our front porch to add some flair to the house when it’s dark. I like using solar lights because I don’t have to worry about running electricity to the lights. Sunlight does all the work for me. But the only downside (until now) has been that the lights that I’ve used have all been plain old white lights. The XMCOSY solar outdoor pathway lights add flair AND color! Let’s wait till dark and check them out.

The XMCOSY solar outdoor pathway lights are a set of 6 lights that use solar panels to charge an internal battery and then light up LEDs when it detects that it’s dark. Solar Motion Sensor Light

Where so many solar path lights are made of plastic, the XMCOSY solar outdoor pathway lights are made of glass that looks like it’s cracked and metal that has been painted to look like tarnished copper. The lights are also a lot larger than many cheap solar lights that I’ve seen and used in the past.

The top of the light has a large solar panel.

The top comes off to reveal the battery compartment for the 1.2V 1000mAh AA NIMH rechargeable battery, which is included with each light. It’s great that the battery can be replaced. There’s also a switch that has settings for OFF, W, and C. W is for white, and C is for color.

Each light has a two-piece stake. There’s a metal tube and a plastic spike. The spike inserts into the tube.

Then the tube inserts into the bottom of the light.

The whole assembly can then be poked into the ground. It’s tough to see the lights in the image above due to all the leaves that we’ve yet to clean up.

It’s best to put the lights where they can get ample direct sunlight during the daylight hours so the internal battery can be charged.

Once the sun goes down, the lights will turn on in either W or C mode. The color mode was exciting because I’ve never had colored pathway lights. What’s even more interesting is that the lights color cycle!

These two pics don’t do the color mode justice. You can watch the video below, where I show the lights in action.

The only downside to the color mode is that the colors are pastel, which makes them best suited for Easter 🙂 Too bad there wasn’t a way to assign colors to each light.

Of course, you can just set each light to W to look like traditional white pathway lights like you see above.

It’s important to note that the time the lights stay lit can vary wildly. It depends on your location, the weather, and how much direct sunlight each light gets per day. This time of year in southern Indiana can be a bit dreary with mostly cloudy days. On the days when the sun was out most of the day, the lights stayed lit for about 3 hours. That doesn’t sound like a long time, but I wonder if they will shine longer during warmer and sunnier weather. I will definitely update the review next spring/summer.

The XMCOSY solar outdoor pathway lights are the nicest solar powered pathway lights that I’ve used. They look really nice and the fact that you can change from white to color makes them more unique than the majority of solar pathway lights that are on the market. They get two thumbs up from me.
